ROMNEY ALE is a HERRING AID

P.O.S.H. bEER fOR lANDlUBBERS & SEAMEN

What a delight...Taking a look around Paddy Hamilton's studio
a weekend or two ago, I see a surprising exhibit....

A bottle of beer.

On closer inspection I see it's brewed by the Romney Marsh Brewery (still in their infancy but on the right track....Pot holes filling in as we speak!) At an even closer look, I see the beer has been given a nickname by its creator

'Herring Aid'.

Matt Calais was so inspired by the flavour relationship of our bloaters & his beers, he has credited us in it's description. We cant wait for the full enticement wrapping round it
when it hits the shelves or your local jump pump.

         FOREVER FRIENDS

To my delight, Paddy passed a bottle on to me from the brewery it's self, which I gladly snatched out of his hands and had with dinner.

Jolders, 004, Kesser & StiggyWig slurped down with Brill smoked Brill caught by Stig, and wonderfully smoked cod & Whitings from The Thomas's Fish Hut in Dungeness.

A Brand New Year

Well all our efforts of the latter part of 2013 have paid off. We have gained much custom and interest and are very much looking forward to moving forward this year. We have lots of ideas and plans in the making to make all you lovely people happy.

The Dungeness Smokery is gaining speed and momentum more than we realised. Conversations were overheard at the 'Apothacary' in Rye....

"Although I am enjoying this lamb, what I am really looking forward to is the bloaters I bought from The Dungeness Smokery I am having for tea. We had them last night and a slight addiction has taken hold!"

Two day later, we had information we had been mentioned in the guardian. The most possitive part of the article too. Check link below.

Let's move to Lydd and New Romney

http://www.theguardian.com/money/2014/jan/03/lets-move-to-lydd-and-new-romney

We do have but one concern, that someone out there may be able to shed light on......

We desperately need a new premises as we are quickly out-growing the one we are in. Without more space we can only produce a small amount of smokey products and that will just not do.

We are longing to bring our fayre further afield as well as expanding our product range, so if you know any locations for rent on the Romney Marsh, please do feel free to comment or email any details.

Our needs are residential with a large garage and or big garden to put a big shed on. We don't ask for a lot, but we do ask.

Bring the fish in.

Now for the Cool Kipper

HERRING'S FINNS and ALL KINDS OF THINGS

A mammoth task has been undertook

These beautiful fish have been underrated for far too long.

In 1977, a total herring ban was put in place . As gill nets were abandoned with trawling and ring netting taking president, eventually this type of method resulted in over fishing of the mighty & humble herring.

The ban was not lifted until 1983 and by that time the younger generation were no longer accustomed to herring on the menu and the
market demand dropped considerably.

The smokeress at The Dungeness Smokery is here to re-ignite a love for herring. Without the herring girls most would not have tried this fish.

                               1950's girls                      2000's girl

After a good old splitting, salting & smoking they present themselves on your breakfast table.

Check tomorrows post for where you can buy these beauties this weekend.

That's Christmas breakfast salted!
